Assignment #8 - Persecution

You have all been working diligently on your novel study assignments.  All of the novels show the trials and tribulations of a character and how he/she was treated unfairly.  Now that you have a better idea of what persecution is, I would like you to write about the type of persecution that occurred in your novel.  In your paragraph, make sure you explain the following:

1.)  What type of persecution occurred?
2.)  Who was affected and how was this person affected?
3.)  Who persecuted this person and why?
4.)  Why do you think this type of persecution was allowed to happen?
5.)  If you could change what happened, what would you change and why?
6.)  How did it make you feel?  Explain in detail.

*** Remember, these are just guidelines for your paragraph.  Don't forget to provide good support/examples/evidence for your points. ***
*** I fully expect you to write using proper spelling, grammar, capitals, sentence structure, etc. ***

  1. A form of persecution in the book "Freedom Train" was slavery. Slavery was spread mostly in the southern part of the U.S.A and was very cruel. Most slaves worked without pay, and lived a harsh and poor life filled with whipping and crying. Slavery has affected many friend and families, and it's really sad to realize that your son or daughter would be born a slave. But not only families and friends were affected, some people thought slavery was completely wrong and wanted to help the slaves escape. Many of these people were captured and had to pay a fine or go to prison. I think slavery was allowed because people became greedy and wanted more money. Most of the slave owners probably didn't realize how harsh and cruel slavery was because they lived most of their life thinking slavery was O.K. If I could, I would erase slavery from history because I think slavery is extremely wrong.

  2. A form of persecution in the book is slavery. In the beginning of the book, Harriet was called "stupid girl" by her boss and his wife. Also she would get blamed for something she didn't do. Slavery was shown by the shop owner and his wife because they are bad people and doesn't care what others think and feel when they abuse someone. If I could change a part of the story, it would be instead of Harriet getting abused, the owners get abused by people. Also Harriet wouldn't be a slave and be a rich person who helpes people that has troubles in their lives and lives with her family. I felt bad for Harriet because she has to work for who abuses her.

She was born a slave and always treated like a slave be her owner or boss. This type of persicution happend all around the world and if I counld have changed it I wounld but that is the past so nothing can change it. After reading this book I was very sad and angry because the government let this happen back then it"s just horrific.

  4. A form of persecution in this book is slavery, because harrit was called "stupid girl." by her boss. She also got blamed for stuff she didn't do. She was a slave and she always treated like one. If I could change the story I wouldnt let harrit get abused. I really felt bad for her because she doesn't deserve to be treated like that. I felt really sad and mad when I was reading this book.

    1. Nice work Oreo! If I were you, I would fix mistakes like how you had the habit of spelling "Harriet" "harriet" (And remember your capitals!). Also, add "was" to the sentence "She was a slave and she(insert here) always treated like one." The last suggestion I would make is to add more transition words to make the writing more smooth.

Many of these people were captured and had to pay a fine or go to prison. I think slavery was allowed because people became greedy and wanted more money, also, America didn't have a "Charter of Rights and Freedoms". Most of the slave owners probably didn't realize how harsh and cruel slavery was because they lived most of their life thinking slavery was O.K. If I could, I would erase slavery from history because I think slavery is extremely wrong. Thankfully, slavery is abolished in most countries.
